Review of the Movie Musical, INTO THE WOODS

into the woods

Two years ago around this time Les Mis was released. Everybody was dancing around the theaters yelling “One Day More!” at the top of their lungs. Now the next great musical has come along. If you have no prior knowledge of the plot for Into The Woods, then listen up! It is a mash-up of many popular fairy tales. You have included in the movie: Jack and the Beanstalk, Cinderella, Red Riding Hood, Rapunzel, Prince Charming, and all of their corresponding tales glued together. It all starts when the evil witch, Meryl Streep, sends a baker and his wife into the woods searching for ingredients to a potion. They just happen to be looking for Red Riding Hood’s cape, Rapunzel’s hair, Cinderella’s shoe and Jack’s white cow. But between searching for those items, viewers get to see the other’s tales. But with singing! To get a hint of the funny musical aspect, just look up the song Agony (a duet between “prince charmings”). Similar to all the recent re-done fairytales, this movie crushes. If you like Once Upon a Time, Maleficent, or any fantasy story, this is for you. This one also features a great cast. The super-cute princes were my personal favorite. Helllo Chris Pine. Can’t wait until the library gets a DVD copy… once it comes out on DVD that is!
