Navajos Wear Nikes by Jim Kristofic
This novel is an eye-opening story about a Pennsylvania boy moving onto an Indian Reservation at a young age. The author, Jim Kristofic, is the main character. Kristofic’s autobiography shows the true occurances on an Indian Reservation. Poverty, alcoholism and sexual crime rates are at some of their highest on reservations. And Native Americans don’t gallop around on their horses while hunting buffalo, returning at night to their tipis; reservations are a place where a repressed population continues to encounter racism and discrimination from the outside majority. Kristofic’s life story will educate you on the Navajo people, acceptance, and how to deal with unfortunate circumstances. I recommend it wholeheartedly.
